Over the past 9 years Crystal Pontes has become well recognized among Portuguese communities around the world. At the young age of 3 Crystal already knew that the stage was the only place she wanted to be. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; she spent the earlier part of her life training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Musical Theatre.
Crystal is also very proud of her Portuguese background. Her mother was born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal and grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil; together with her dad, who was born in Terçeira, Azores, Portugal, kept their roots very much alive in a Portuguese speaking household. She has taken part in various Portuguese folk dance groups and Carnival dances where she could be seen singing and dancing. She has also given her time and effort in organizing and performing in events to raise money for cancer research. Crystal who now resides in the greater Toronto area has worked with Toronto’s renowned vocal coach Brenda Berge.
In 1999, Crystal released her debut album titled "A Dança Do Lê Olá", following up with her self-titled album in 2004. Both albums had a great response from the Portuguese communities across North America, Europe and Bermuda, giving her the opportunities to perform across Canada in cities like: Toronto and throughout South Western Ontario, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Victoria, Thunder Bay and of course Winnipeg. In United States; California, New York and Rhode Island; Portugal in Terçeira and Santa Maria, Açores and Bermuda.
At only 23, Crystal has had the opportunity to perform with some of the biggest names in Canada, Portugal and Brazil. Performers such as: Shawn Desman, Nelia, Anjos, Starlight, Panteras, Nilton Cesar, Anjos, Carmen Silva, Fernando Correia Marques, Lucas & Mateus, and Iran Costa are included in the many performers Crystal has shared the stage with. Also, Crystal has had the privilege of performing for the Presidents of Portugal, the Azores and Madeira.
Currently you can find Crystal in the studio working on upcoming material colaborating with 2002 Juno Nominee, Elissa, whose production credits include Shawn Desman & Joee and will has commenced work on her third abum. This is only the beginning of a career that is guaranteed to cross boundaries!
